Rock Seconding School (RSS) will teach you how to be the second
climber on both a multi-pitch trad climb and a sport climb. The important
skills of belaying, communication, knots, gear management,
cleaning a pitch, cleaning a sport anchor, rope management, and rappelling
will be taught. If you have taken Beginner Rock Climbing
Seminar (BRCS) and found that you like rock climbing, this is the next
step.
To qualify for this course, you must have completed BRCS or know
how to and have experience with: figure eight tie-in to the harness,
belaying a top-roped climber, rappelling on belay, and climbing 5.5
rock. RSS is an alternative to Basic Mountaineering School (BMS) for
those interested only in class 5 climbing. If you have taken or intend
to take BMS, you will not need to take this school. RSS or BMS is
required to participate on a CMC Denver Group multi-pitch rock
climb. Experienced climbers new to the club may test out of RSS.
